A Brief Guide to Choosing a Great Raincoat

A raincoat is a great investment especially for people who like to step out and enjoy the outdoors even when it's raining. It's the perfect gear when you want to keep warm during wet days, whether you're going to work, college, or simply shopping.  Below are some important considerations for buying a high quality raincoat that suits your needs just fine.

Waterproof/Water Resistance

A water-resistant raincoat has a water-repellent film that prevents light precipitation from penetrating through the fabric. Usually, nylon and polyester are used to make such clothing. However, a waterproof raincoat is designed not allow any amount of seepage no matter the intensity of rain. You may want to check that a product utilizes waterproof technologies such as GORE-TEX or DryQ before buying.

Layers

The more the layers a coat has, the more the comfort as well as rain protection it provides. There are 2-layer, 2.5-layer, or even 3-layer raincoats available for purchase. Three-layer coats are usually more expensive though.  Just consider the kind of activity you want to do and decide the level of protection and comfort needed.

For example, most 2-layer rain coat brands are moderately priced. They usually make up for perfect urban and travel raingear. On the other hand, 3-layer jackets are very burly and generally heaviest of the available options. They're also very durable as they're built to stand the harshest of wet weather conditions.

Features and Size

Of course you want to step out wearing something that fits nicely, not a raincoat that almost touches the surface as you walk. Likewise, be sure the raincoat has a properly fitting hood for the perfect cover over your head. The ideal raincoat hood size and design provides sufficient protection for your head, cheeks, and face without compromising your vision, which may be particularly blurry when it's raining.

Style

The best raincoat style is a matter of personal taste, rather than function. So, that's an issue you may need to consider last after all essentials have been addressed. Nonetheless, there are many impressive options to look at including raincoat color or zipper/button style.

Once you have figured out the right raincoat specifications for utmost comfort, the rest is only a matter of style. Just be sure to select raingear that provides adequate levels of damp protection when it's wet out there. Take into account your planned outdoor activity before choosing the layers of protection and coating you need for your high quality rain coat.
